US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrives in Tashkent
The US delegation led by the Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrives in Tashkent On April 10, 2019.
At bilateral consultations, it is planned to exchange views on the situation in Afghanistan and prospects for launching the mechanism of inter-Afghan peace negotiations, to discuss the issues of implementation of socio-economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan initiated by Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan MFA press-service reports.
Earlier this week Ismatulla Irgashev, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, met with the Special Envoy on the Afghan Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Deng Xijun in Beijing.
The sides discussed the prospects for enhancing the interaction of the two countries in the Afghan sector, including the participation of China in the activities of the Educational Center for the training of Afghan citizens in the city of Termez, the implementation of other joint projects in various fields.
According to the MFA, the Chinese side expressed its readiness to join the development of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project. In this regard, Deng Xijun emphasized the significance of the project initiated by the Uzbek side for the entire region, the development of its transport infrastructure with subsequent access to the countries of South Asia. The conversation also addressed the issues that are planned to be included on the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group in Bishkek.
