On April 13, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in.
Presidents in a traditionally friendly and warm atmosphere discussed in detail the current issues of further strengthening bilateral relations of a special strategic partnership and expanding multifaceted cooperation, primarily in trade and economic sphere, as well as exchanged views on some issues of the regional and international agenda.
Special attention was paid to continuing interaction and joint efforts in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan sincerely thanked Moon Jae-in for practical assistance in countering the pandemic. Since the end of March, a Korean professor, an epidemiologist, has been actively working in Uzbekistan, sharing his knowledge and skills. Another experienced resuscitation anesthetist is expected to arrive from South Korea this month. Charter flights are organized to evacuate Uzbekistan citizens and deliver necessary medical supplies.
Leaders of Uzbekistan and South Korea firmly emphasized their commitment to expanding practical cooperation and the effective implementation of the best practices of Korean medicine in the country, including in organizing quarantine measures, identifying and treating diseases, conducting rehabilitation measures and improving the skills of medical personnel.
An agreement was reached on close coordination of actions and operational interaction between the ministries of health and leading medical centers of the two countries.
Presidents dwelt in detail on the issues of maintaining the achieved dynamics of trade, economic, investment, financial, scientific and innovative cooperation between the two countries.
Implementation of priority investment projects with participation of leading Korean companies and socially significant programs through the Export-Import Bank of Korea and the Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) was analyzed.
Noticeable increase in the trade turnover and joint ventures was noted with satisfaction, which indicates an increase in mutual interest on business.
The need for continuing active contacts and exchanges at the level of the governments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea was noted in order to unconditionally implement the agreements reached during the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in to Uzbekistan in April 2019, as well as thorough preparations for the upcoming summit in Seoul.
President Moon Jae-in once again assured that the Republic of Korea will provide all the necessary assistance and support to fraternal Uzbekistan in overcoming new difficulties and modern challenges as soon as possible.
