Experts discussed industrial risks in Central Asia

Tashkent hosted the ninth regional meeting for Central Asia with participation of the national coordinators of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence (CBRN) of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan, representatives of the European Union and a number of other international organizations.

Acting Chairman of the State Committee for Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Head of the Regional Secretariat of the European Union Initiative on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence (CBRN) for Central Asian countries B.Gulamov, EU Coordinator at CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence Tristan Simonart and others emphasized that projects implemented in this sphere in the countries of the region are aimed at good goals.

Information was provided on activities of the regional Secretariat. During the analysis, special attention was paid to discussion of “Popularization of the EU initiative on reducing the risk of CBRN action among various segments of the population” innovative project and Jayron training exercises. A presentation of national action plans of the centers of excellence of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan on CBRN was also held.

As it was noted, Uzbekistan is actively implementing “Management of chemical and biological waste in Central Asia” project, developed at the initiative of the EU. The project “Strengthening the National legal framework and providing specialized training on biosafety and biosecurity in Central Asian countries” is being completed.

National action plans of the countries of the region for implementation of the Resolution of the UN Security Council on reducing the risks of CBRN exposure were discussed at the meeting.
