Spain is world’s healthiest country

Spain is officially recognized as the healthiest country in the world.

According to Bloomberg Global Health Index Spain rose from sixth place, which it occupied in 2017, and ranked first among 169 countries.

The rating considers both demographic and environmental indicators.

Spain has the highest life expectancy among the EU and is expected to overtake Japan by this indicator by 2040. The country's Mediterranean diet, including olive oil and nuts, has led to a reduction of serious cardiovascular diseases rate.

The top ten included four more European countries: Iceland (third), Switzerland (fifth), Sweden (sixth) and Norway (ninth). Japan was the healthiest Asian nation, jumping three places from the 2017 survey into fourth and replacing Singapore, which dropped to eighth. Australia and Israel rounded out the top 10 at seventh and 10th place.
