Uzbekistan’s first winter Olympics medalist Lina Cheryazova died aged 51

Her name will forever remain in the chronicles of Uzbekistan sports.

According to the NOC website for a long time, Cheryazova struggled with a serious illness.

Cheryazova is the champion of the 1994 Olympics. Her gold medal in Lillehammer remains the only one in the history of Uzbek sports at the Winter Games. In addition, Lina Cheryazova won the World Cup in 1993. In 1994, Cheryazova received the title of Honored Athlete of Uzbekistan, in 1998 - the honorary title of "Uzbekistan iftihori", the "Mehnat Shukhrati" Order in 1998.

In 1999, Cheryazova moved to Russia, to the city of Novosibirsk.
